Nearly 1,500 people attended the various activities presented during this sixth edition of the Quebec Spring Show, bringing together the Ayrshire, Holstein and Jersey dairy breeds in Victoriaville, on April 29 and 30.
A total of 256 subjects, all breeds combined, were presented during the 2022 edition, thus launching the show season in Quebec.
Holstein Show
On the Holstein side, 162 animals were presented to the judge Yan Jacobs, who selected the winner of the senior 3-year-old class, Midas-Touch Montery 1127-ET, as Holstein Grand Champion. She beat Premium Apple Crisp Lilly, owned by Francis Morneau, who won the Reserve Grand Champion title, and Idee Windbrook Lynzi, owned by Frank A. and Diane Borba, JM Valley Holstein, Richard W. and Shannon Allyn as well as Stéphane Gendreau, who was named Honorable Mention.
Earlier in the day, Judge Jacobs also named Midas-Touch Montery 1127-ET Intermediate Champion and Premium Apple Crisp Lilly Reserve Intermediate Champion, while Intermediate Honorable Mention was awarded to Clovis High Octane Soly, owned by Ferme Blondin, Jean-Philippe Proulx, JM Valley Holstein and Stéphane Gendreau.
At the Junior Championship, Kingsway Alligator A Twix, owned by Velthuis Farms LTD, walked away with the honors. Petitclerc Lambda Bilbo, property of Ferme Fortale Holstein inc., Ferme Jean-Paul Petitclerc et fils inc. and Tendridge Cattle, won the title of Reserve Junior Champion, while Vertdor Destiny Maldives, owned by Ferme Vert D'Or inc., received the Junior Honorable Mention.
R&W Holstein Show
Among the Red and White animals that marched in the Black and White Holstein judging, Judge Yan Jacobs named Grand Champion Premium Apple Crisp Lilly, owned by Francis Morneau. She was selected ahead of Glaustar Majestic Altitude, owned by Glaustar Holsteins and Lookout Holsteins, voted Reserve Grand Champion. Ultimately, Lookout Burning It Up Red, owned by Elitehaven Genetics and Lookout Holsteins, won Honorable Mention at the Grand Championship.
At the Junior Championship, Garay-MD-WVG Becca-Red, owned by Gerald & Kenneth Halbach and Lookout Holsteins, walked away with the honors. The title of Reserve Junior Champion went to Blondin Stars Allie-Red, owned by Ferme Blondin, Laurent Lambert and Weavercroft International, and the Junior Honorable Mention went to Fortale Attraction Saphyra Red, owned by Ferme Fortale Holstein inc.
Jersey Show
55 Jersey animals were presented before Judge Andrew Vander Meulen who named Grand Champion, Pine Haven Victorius Margaret, owned by JM Valley, Blair Weeks, F&D Borba and Stéphane Gendreau. The Reserve Grand Champion title went to Top Gene Flocon Baby, owned by Stéphane Marceau and Marie St-Cyr. Ultimately, Lookout She's Got It, owned by Lookout Jerseys, F&D Borba and Aleska Govedarica, won the Honorable Mention award at the Grand Championship.

The Reserve Junior Champion title went to Leomi Frank Sinatra, owned by Ferme Mibelson inc. and Léonie Michon, while the Junior Honorable Mention was awarded to SSF Magician Sophia, owned by Lookout and Ferme Pierre Boulet.
Ayrshire Show
Judge Jean-Philippe Charest, who saw 39 Ayrshire horses parade, chose Margot Linzy, owned by Éric Lang, as Grand Champion, ahead of Marbrae Durango's Chamomile, owned by Marbrae Enterprises Inc., Reserve Grand Champion, and Margot Skittles , owned by Ferme Margot enr., Honorable Mention.
The Intermediate Champion title went to Margot Linzy. For its part, Marbrae Durango's Chamomile won the title of Reserve Intermediate Champion, while the Intermediate Honorable Mention was awarded to Margot Caramel, owned by Ferme Margot enr.
In the Junior Championship, Dale Vista Predator Alexa, owned by Dale Vista Farms SENC, took top honors, ahead of Bold Pangea Holy, owned by Anthony Bilodeau, Reserve Junior Champion and Bavarian Reagan Adeen, owned by Amélie Hardy-Demers and Martin Poirier, Honorable Mention Junior.
Supreme Championship
The cherry on the cake for the Crack family, Montery 1127 also received top honors by being proclaimed the Supreme Champion by Yan Jacobs and Jean-Philippe Charest. This year, the Quebec Spring Expo committee offered something new for the unveiling of the Supreme Champion. It was in the form of a "tail gate" that all visitors and breeders were invited to taste a good cheese fondue "La Nun", from the Fromagerie du Presbytère, while admiring the quality of the animals that represented the championship. . Thanks to Blondin Sires for sponsoring this unifying event.
The youth was there
In addition, for this sixth edition, the emphasis was once again placed on the next generation. In fact, 20 young people took part in the two training workshops on “How to prepare for the exhibition? and “Achieving Recognition,” offered to agricultural schools.
Friday evening, it was not the stars in the eyes that were missing for the vintage of 39 young enthusiasts who participated in the presentation competition. All of them proved to judge Jean-Philippe Charest that they were not on their first experience and that they had it in their blood. Seeing the passion that inhabits them encourages associations to organize activities of this kind to continue to increase the interest that the next generation has for breeding. Despite all the talents present, it was finally Zack Demers and William Poirier (9 years old and under), Brendon Demers and Justin Bourque (10 to 12 years old), Léonie Michon and Nellie Jacobs (13 to 16 years old), Rachel Corley and Audrey Morneau (17 to 21 years old), and Sheldon Shane and Jana Shramm (22 to 25 years old) who have earned a place, in their respective class, for the big championship. Mr. Charest finally elected Rachel Corley as Grand Champion of the presentation contest for the 2022 edition. She was followed by Léonie Michon and Nellie Jacobs as Reserve Champion and Honorable Mention. Congratulation to all participants! This presentation contest aims to teach young people to show their animal in its best light, with natural ease.
The International Conference of Ayrshire Judges joins the Quebec Spring Show
More than 30 people were present on the site on April 28th. This activity allowed 18 official judges and aspiring judges, as well as several participants, to put their knowledge into practice by judging three different classes. In addition, in the afternoon, the participants met to discuss various topics including the type model sought in the future, the preparation of a judge for the Breeders' Cup as well as during virtual judging.
This sixth edition of the Quebec Spring Expo was made possible thanks to the contribution of several sponsors including John Deere Canada, Machinerie CH, ADS Canada and the City of Victoriaville. In addition, Expo-printemps du Québec received a financial contribution of $130,000 from MAPAQ to support its event.
